The first survey of the 2024/2025 grain harvest, released on October 15th by the National Supply Company (Conab), shows that Rio Grande do Sul could have the largest grain harvest in its history, driven by the recovery in rice and soybean productivity.
Grain production in Rio Grande do Sul is forecast at 38.35 million tons, 3.3% higher than the previous harvest. This maintains the state’s third-place national ranking, behind Mato Grosso and Paraná. Planted area is expected to grow 0.7%, reaching 10.48 million hectares.
Rice production in the state is expected to increase 15.3%, totaling 8.26 million tons, with an area of 988,000 hectares (+9.7%). Rio Grande do Sul accounts for approximately 70% of the rice produced in Brazil, boosting the national harvest, which is expected to grow 13.8%, reaching 12.05 million tons.
Soybean, the state’s main crop, is expected to reach 20.34 million tons (+3.5%) and an area of 6.84 million hectares (+1.1%). Corn, on the other hand, is expected to decline by 11.4%, with production estimated at 4.3 million tons and an area of 719.6 thousand hectares (-11.7%).
Bean production is expected to grow 6%, reaching 76 thousand tons, while wheat, the main winter crop, is expected to reach 4.19 million tons on 1.34 million hectares planted.
National grain production is estimated at 322.47 million tons, an increase of 8.3% compared to the previous harvest.
